Wild hair

This is what Teresa's hair looks like after her bath and a quick towel dry:

Curls and body!

But the minute I come near it with a comb or brush it falls flat and fine and straight. Oh well. I'm not about to put gel in my almost-2-year-old's hair, as I do in mine.

Instead, I push it back with a comb or my fingers and try all sorts of clips and holders to keep it out of her eyes. Rarely do they stay in more than an hour or two, and not because she's pulling them out deliberately (anymore). They just slip right out of her superfine hair. I really have no idea what to do with it, it's so different from mine and my siblings' hair.

hummm.. Have you read the book Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey? I'm in the process of reading it and it has all sorts of information and insight into curly hair. There is even a chapter devoted to kids.

Does it stay curly when you just leave it? Could you cut bangs and then the curls in front wouldn't get in her eyes?

So cute!

I use these itty bitty rubber bands in Mary's hair because barrettes fall out.

Stasia: If I didn't comb her hair I'm pretty sure it would fall flat anyway, since it straightens even when I pull a shirt over her head. I don't like bangs very much, so I'm not ready to do that to Teresa (yet!). I'll just keep pulling her hair back for now...or let her run around shaggy-headed (much to David's chagrin).

Katherine: Yes, the little rubber bands are the best bet. That's how I do the little side pony on top of Teresa's head, her most common hairstyle. It holds fairly well...until she rubs her head on something (the couch, my leg...) as she loves to do!

Frances,
Yeah... so many years of bad hair due to bangs!
